Southmead Care Home sells to a first-time buyer

A first-time buyer has acquired Southmead, a renowned and stunningly presented residential retirement care home in Dorset.

Southmead has successfully operated in a desirable Dorset location for over 50 years, 31 of which has been with the previous vendors. During this time, it has developed a reputation for providing excellent standards of care and support within a warm environment.

The rare opportunity to acquire Southmead arose due to the owner’s retirement ambitions, who directed Redwoods Dowling Kerr to locate a suitable buyer for their family-run business.

The freehold care home demonstrates an excellent trading record with historically high occupancy at capacity. There is a mix of social services and private clients who receive support from qualified and experienced staff.

The buyer was attracted to purchase Southmead due to the excellent location and accessibility of the business. They wish to continue the superb work of the vendors.

Despite being a first-time buyer, the buyer has experience from the banking industry and was attracted to the healthcare sector due to their parents owning a care home.

The vendor said, “The price ultimately obtained was a fair one. I cannot speak highly enough of the Senior Sales Negotiator, Nick Shepherd, whose patience and persistence eventually delivered what we think is the perfect result in terms of handover as a going concern to keep the home running as we have for 31 years. As we can now move into retirement, we thank Nick and the rest of the Redwoods team for making it possible.”

The buyer said, “I am excited by my purchase and would describe my experience with RDK as professional, organised and friendly. They are efficient brokers who get the deal done.”

Senior Sales Negotiator, Nick Shepherd said, “I am really pleased that the sale has now completed, and I wish both parties the best of luck.”
